 READINGS FOR ARTWORKERS 2015

What is the place of the public in the artistic division of labor?

Meeting with Jean-Louis Fabiani (EHESS, Paris, visiting professor University of Warsaw)

Thursday, 28.05.2015, 6 pm

Museum of Modern Art, Pańska 3

The seminar will be held in English

Recent developments in contemporary art have raised important questions with respect to the artistic division of labor, either in terms of « artworlds » or in terms of field. New characters have appeared besides the critic and the merchant : the « new curator »,  the « commissaire » and  the radical academic stand out among a crowd of mediators. Curiously enough, the public does not seem to have a significant share in the process. This presentation aims to analyze the essential tension between the autonomy of the artist, as conceived since the rise of modern art and the voice of the beholder.
