INVESTIGATIVE RESEARCH, MAPPING ELITES AND DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE

Cmyk/Greyscale, catalogue, eds. Rebecca Gordon Nesbitt, Kate Davis

Rebecca Gordon Nesbitt is a culture critic and theorist conducting humdrum research on the maze of cultural policy. During the seminar, she is going to talk about how from a curator working for major and prestigious institutions she became a critical researcher of culture.

WUW aims to constitute a centre for critical reflection on cultural policy - not only do we deal with how art is created but also how it is financed, produced and distributed. The seminar features Rebecca Gordon Nesbitt, one of the authors of European Cultural Policies 2015. Rebecca is a culture critic and theorist, who often conducts humdrum research on the maze of cultural policy. She is involved in investigative journalism and tracing oligarchic tendencies in our societies, struggling for democracy not only in the cultural field. During the seminar, she is going to talk about how from a curator working for major and prestigious institutions she became a critical researcher of culture, what her theoretical foundations and journalist workshop is and she is going to present her recent investigations into privatisation of culture in Glasgow and Scotland as well as the reactions that they triggered.

The seminar is aimed at exchanging experience and active involvement of all participants in critical discussion. We invite primarily those who deal with cultural theory, critique and journalism. The group is going to be small (maximum of 15 people), we kindly ask you to contact Fundacja Bęc Zmiana prior to the event in order to make a booking.

HOST
Rebecca Gordon Nesbitt

Rebecca Gordon Nesbitt - having worked as a curator in London, Glasgow and the Nordic countries, Rebecca Gordon-Nesbitt receded from direct participation to concentrate on research into the infrastructure of the art world, its institutions and economies. Committed to the use of investigative research in exposing elites, she retains a belief in the radical potential of art.
